Pressed steel (with or without tins or fins) or machined brass cages are generally used, but sometimes molded polyamide cages are also available depending on the application. Cylindrical Roller Bearings are also available without cages with a full complement of rollers. This allows even higher loads but at the expense of speed. Single row nsk bearings are also manufactured with snap ring grooves on the outer rings. This design simplifies the bearing joint as the bearings are located into the housing by means of the snap rings. The snap ring groove and snap rings are in accordance with IS0 464.

Cylindrical bearings provide the highest possible radial load capacity compared to other roller bearing types. Four primary styles are available to meet a variety of application requirements.One-row, or single-row, caged cylindrical roller bearings are available in six primary designs. Inside and outside ring configurations vary to accommodate different application designs.

Two-row, or double-row, cylindrical bearings offer added radial capacity over traditional one-row types.Four-row cylindrical bearings have an extremely high radial load capacity, but no thrust capacity. This koyo bearing type is mostly used in roll neck and work roll applications in the metal rolling industry.Full complement cylindrical roller bearings meet the need for increased radial load carrying capacity by maximizing the number of rollers in a given envelope.
